"This I find wrong. We’ve had enough intelligence analysis filtered through subjective interpretation. In these positions we need folks with a proven track record of professional objectivity and the integrity to defend uncolored analysis to those in power."

I agree. And until we get to the 6th of never, when we actually get such people, I'll settle for having people with a diverse set of biases.

I know nothing about this individual except the thumbnails that have erupted from editorialists. I view it as the administration's prerogative to appoint anyone who qualifies without legal conflict and per guidelines for such roles. However this:

> (Imagine for a moment the absurdity of denying someone this
> position for holding radically libertarian views on the drug war,
> or for holding distasteful-but-conventional pro-Turkish views on
> the Armenian genocide–these things are related to U.S. policy
> overseas and are controversial, but have no connection to
> intelligence analysis.)

This I find wrong. We've had enough intelligence analysis filtered through subjective interpretation. In these positions we need folks with a proven track record of professional objectivity and the integrity to defend uncolored analysis to those in power.

The hyphenated run-on to your last statement seems flatly illogical and risks more of the "nonsense" we saw in the last administration.

I do not know whether this particular individual is able or not to champion unfiltered objective intelligence analysis. I do know that is exactly what I want from people in these roles. And I consider past public record on world visible events and philosophies as relevant.
