Front Porch Republic

I am participating in an interesting new group blog, Front Porch Republic, that is starting up tomorrow. Give it until tomorrow before trying to check the site. Many familiar TAC contributors and other bloggers well known to many of you will be joining in the discussions on localism, limits and liberty.

  1. Looking forward to it!

  2. It looks rather good – reminiscent of the old Reactionary Radicals site that has vanished into the Aether.

Is the title “Front Porch Republic” an allusion to the subtitle of Bill Kaufmann’s “Look Homeward America: In Search of Reactionary Radicals and Front-Porch Anarchists”?

  3. That is my understanding of where the name came from. However, it also refers more generally to the sort of community in which neighbors know and help one another, rather than retreating inward in private life and into the backyard. Deneen discusses this point in his first post, “Front Porch Republics.”
