		<description>Suderman&#039;s right that status is based on prestige and not opinions, but holding certain opinions can damage that prestige.  Being an ardent opponent of amnesty, for example, will get you bad press and damage your prestige.  Vide: Tom Tancredo, who was shunned by his own party&#039;s president.

McCain, OTOH, knew how to play the game.  He&#039;d champion the key issues that would get him favorable press (and thus prestige), like McCain-Feingold, while still keeping his ACU scores up.  The whole thing nearly blew up during the Amnesty issue, and he only patched it together because so many conservative candidates split the vote.</description>
