During most of April (mostly pre Pennsylvania primary), [threatening to] "bomb bomb bomb Iran" was one of the Clinton campaign's main lines. The "obliterate" line and Clinton doubling down in defense of it was a big deal, at least in the left wonkoblogosphere.

just google "clinton iran obliterate" to see the firestorm it created.

I personally can't imagine Iran setting out to _directly_ attack Israel (although lots of things I can't imagine have happened; clearly my imagination is quite deficient). But I can imagine an Israeli-Hizbullah dustup escalating to limited direct attacks, though I think that's a pretty low probability event. But Daniel (and others) probably have better takes on the odds than I do.

I actually did not know she said that. Thanks for the link.

Do you think Iran will ever really attack Israel or is it just theatre for their radical base? These last eight years have made me pretty cynical I guess so I can totally see this as the uber wedge issue which keeps radicals in charge over there. Assuming we aren't the only country where wedgies decide elections.

uh, rawshark (love the nick, BTW), remember when Hillary said:

“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president we will attack Iran,” Clinton said. “In the next ten years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

'since I would have thought that mindless hostility to Iran is one of the things that would bring members of both parties together. '

Really? Am i missing the sarcasm? I don't know any democrats who get all whipped into a frenzy about Iran. But then I don't know many democrats so maybe that's why I don't get it.
