Some commenters seem not to understand conditional statements. I am not saying that Obama never uses such language--obviously, he uses it all the time--but that the same people who fall at Palin's feet would treat the language she uses as nonsense if he were using it. I know this because this is exactly what they've done for months. Talk about missing the irony in a statement.

"If Obama uttered such saccharine nonsense, he would be mocked for months for his drippy, feel-good sentimentality."

Obama speaks a language of pandering platitudes all the time. He has been mocked for it for months. If he, or his allies, were to mock Sarah Palin for using feel-good, substance-less talk just to please crowds, well, let's just say the charge would remind voters of someone they know. Poetic justice. I don't know whether it's method or accident, but it's hilariously funny.

Poor Larison. So earnest, when fun ironies appear in politics, he can't enjoy it.
