[...] This is roughly as persuasive as Philip Klein’s attempts to discount everything Obama says about foreign policy and national security and assume that he is, in fact, a secret McGovernite/appeaser who wishes Israel harm.  What I find remarkable is that Hunter will take Obama at his word on the war and then conveniently overlook everything else in Obama’s record and his foreign and security policies that suggests that Obama’s credibility as an antiwar politician is quite poor. In general, Obama proposes an activist, hawkish foreign policy and accepts the use of essentially all the surveillance powers that Mr. Bush received or usurped, and his position on Israel policy is indistinguishable from that of the current administration.  None of this satisfies Klein, just as apparently none of it worries Hunter. [...]

But the ruling isn't really the issue here. Both candidates were committed to shutting down the detention facility anyway, and Powell, who is one of McCain's advisors, has stated publicly that he thought they should be brought into our court system.

He's not being disingenuous when he talks about vouchers--he says flat-out that he opposes vouchers. Anything he has ever said that gave people the *impression* that he believed otherwise does not reflect his actual position, and those who look beyond rhetoric to the substance of his policy positions know this. Likewise, he isn't disingenuous about abortion--he makes it perfectly clear that he is staunchly pro-choice, and it is only his tone and his style that make people think he is open to other ideas. When he says that he respects other people's views, they take that as proof that he is interested in compromise, but that is their mistaken interpretation of what he's doing. Meanwhile, the substance of his positions on foreign policy is one of a very activist interventionism. My criticism of Obama is entirely consistent: I assume that when he says that something is his position, it really is his position and I don't allow the way that he frames it or phrases it to distract me from what he is proposing.

Is there anywhere I can buy stock in the AFL-CIO? I get the impression that an Obama administration would make it an exceedingly good investment.

First, that ruling was totally ultra vires and no amount of "it's a good idea" or "the right thing to do" is going to change that.

Second, it doesn't seem like you are consistent in interpreting what Obama means when he speaks. If it's about aggressive foreign policy, he's telling the truth. If it's about conservative social issues, he's lying or being disingenuous...

It really does seem like whatever interpretation moves your narrative forward you settle on...
