[...] I was ahead of the curve in noticing something related to this Obama-worship:  This is someone who says, “Obviously, you are all terribly wrong, but I am such a good guy that I am going to indulge you in your false notions out of compassion for your suffering.” The Messiah references have been all wrong–this is Obama as bodhisattva. “You cling to your delusions, but I am here to teach you a path of liberation from all such attachments.” [...]

An irritable old man (coot, geezer, codger?), of course.

The font in the comboxes is too small, even smaller than my attention span.

Obama and Hillary both belive that MIddle American religion is an epiphenomenon, and with Thomas Frank believe that MIdwestern workers and farmers should be voting their economic ("real") interests.

As you point out, of course, neither major party gives a wrinkled rat's behind about these folks' economic interests. Even without globalization, technological change was going to reduce employment in traditional heavy industry. To the limited extent that federal policy could affect the situation, both parties have made it worse.

I don't think Obama's gaffe will prove fatal, because people have Hillary's number, and the lady hoisting a boilermaker won't fix that. Obama's finally going after her on her support for the banks' bankruptcy "reform" and her dissembling about NAFTA.

This foofaraw among the punditocracy would be amusing, were not the likely beneficiary an irritable old seems perfectly fine on foreign policy to the likes of John Bolton.

Yeah, this was a huge blunder by Obama. He is on the razor's edge with regard to the middle class white voter and he pulls this stunt.

He is very smooth, but perhaps not smooth enough.
