Reason TV has a fine interview today with Sen. Jim DeMint, in which he talks about the relationship between fiscal and social conservatism and how Republicans could benefit from embracing more libertarian ideas. He remarked recently that the GOP presidential nominee would be unwise to alienate the Ron Paul contingent.

Apparently , not many of the “true conservatives” hung around all night to “recount” the ballots.
-
Just where was he when he could have made a difference in South Carolina?

Jim Demint is preparing to be the nominee if no one wins on the first ballot. The anti-Romney forces need Ron Paul’s votes to take the
nomination. Jim Demint might win the Doctor’s endorsement. -
It’s a scandal that Jim DeMint and other men of substance in the GOP are on the sidelines. A political party that puts up empty suits and blowhards for the Presidency while such men as DeMint remain out of the fray hardly deserves to win.

Hopefully the Republicans will not win unless and until they give up neo-con corporate fascism.
Let’s see a Paul/DeMint or DeMint/Paul ticket and I’m back in.
Obamney or bloodthirsty Santorum I’m out. -
Does this mean that so-called conservatives will cease caring about the life of the unborn? After all, libertarianism is the exaltation of the individual (and no, not the unborn) above all else. Does not economic libertarianism inevitably lead to social libertarianism, a.k.a libertine behavior?

Rousseau, you are staggeringly ignorant of the longstanding PRO-LIFE libertarian viewpoint and its many adherents (like my wife and I, and like, oh some obscure libertarian named Ron Paul). Libertarians, both big L and small L, are all over the spectrum from pro-life to pro-choice. You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.
Unborn babies are innocent, genetically human individuals, and libertarians like our family defend their right not to be killed just like every other innocent person’s right not to be killed. You need to get out more and meet more actual libertarians.
For a starter, find Maryland activist Doris Gordon and her excellent trove of pro-life libertarian writings….

A sensible, intelligent, likeable man. We need more like him. And I agree with him that debating GOP “moderates” is a waste of time. The “moderates” are for more government, more bailouts, more wars.
There may be a new party in the offing: one of the most telling results of the Nevada primary is that self-identified “true conservatives” voted overwhelmingly for … Ron Paul.
