Have read a fair amount about Israel’s forest fire (my wife said to me she didn’t know Israel had forests) and the various reports about which countries helped and did Israel’s foreign minister thank the Palestinian Authority and the diplomatic ramifications. But nothing as searing or to the point as this:

Searing indeed.
The description of the “PhD student from Tel Aviv” in the article recalls trips to the Soviet Union in the 70s and Red China in the 80s. She behaves like one of the Intourist KGB minders that accompanied you wherever you went, complete with demands to review photographs and prepared answers to dangerous questions.
It is a characteristic practice of the old Communist style surveillance state, and the natural byproduct of the huge number of communist apparatchiks and other thugs who fled to Israel as Communism was falling apart.
The Israeli government’s dependence on international assistance (from TURKEY!! lol) to cope with the fire points up other obvious parallels with the old Soviet Bloc. And they want to blame the consequences of their incompetence on an Arab terrorist!
“Reichstag fire”, anyone?
