Will has a highly useful column up today looking at the crucial metrics for November. He suggests that “Barack Obama stands a better chance of holding Kerry’s 19 states and the District of Columbia, and finding 19 more votes, than John McCain does of holding all 31 of Bush’s states.” But Obama is in danger of losing Michigan, where McCain currently outpolls him (by a hair); the state’s “first-quarter unemployment rate of 7.2 was the nation’s worst.” Obama seems to be making up for lost ground in Pennsylvania, where he’s now ahead of McCain by about 6 points, and given the state’s Democratic tilt in recent years, I think the Illinois senator will easily claim it in November. But Michigan is a different story.
