There is something bizarre about President Bush’s rapturous affection for Pope Benedict XVI. Look at this BBC video, which shows him barking “Such an honor! Such an honor!” at the Pontiff like a demented guest at a cocktail party.

It seems odd that the two leading international statesman behind the invasion of Iraq, Bush and Tony Blair, should feel such obvious warmth toward a Pope who clearly and strongly objected to their war.

Blair even went so far as to join the Church of Rome after stepping down from office. Some think that Bush will do the same. This might be a far fetched idea, but watching the President today, and earlier this year during the Pope’s U.S. visit, it is possible he might cross the Tiber. He has said, after all, that he “sees God” when he looks into Benedict’s eyes.
