Why We Need You

The American Conservative needs your support.
Thank You!

Andrew Sullivan has drawn a lot of attention this year for his decision to move to an all-subscription model for his blog, relying entirely on reader support for his endeavor. Though we have a somewhat different model at TAC — we’re not-for-profit, and we accept advertising — the truth is that we really need reader support to keep this website and the magazine going.

We’ve added a huge number of web readers over the past year and a half. At the risk of sounding self-congratulatory, I think it’s easy to see why. There’s a lot of TAC content that’s only available on our website, including blogging by Daniel Larison, Alan Jacobs, Noah Millman, and the gang at State Of The Union. Love us or hate us, we’re talking about ideas and offering perspectives at TAC that are hard to find elsewhere on the conservative web. I signed up as a subscriber to Andrew Sullivan’s site because even when he drives me crazy with his opinions on this or that, I enjoy reading Andrew’s work, if only because he’s paying attention to the kinds of things that interest me, and bringing me news and commentary I wouldn’t otherwise see. In the same way, if you’re a TAC online regular, you come here because whether or not you cheer for us or hiss at us for a particular article, essay, or blog posting, you know you can count on us to give you something to think about and talk about.

This costs money. We’d love it if you’d subscribe to the print mag or a digital version of same, but if you’re not interested in that, please consider becoming a recurring donor to the website. For as little as three dollars a month — that’s only 10 cents per day! — you could make a big difference for us and our future.

It only takes a few minutes to sign up to be a recurring donor. There are several levels of support, too. Ask yourself what having this blog, and this website, available to you every day is worth. If you signed on at the $10 per month level, that would cost you only about 33 cents per day. That’s what, two sips of your Starbucks latte?

Seriously, please give this some thought. We depend on your readership, and your generosity. Click this link to donate.

Also, I hate that it’s come to this, but I’m afraid the truth cannot be hidden any longer:
