People do forget that his wars of “liberation” brought death to a level not to be seen again until the first and second world wars.

Dammit, Dreher. You must read the Aubrey/ Maturin novels. I don’t normally go in for historical fiction, but it’s just so good (once you get to the second in the series). History with skin on! Soused hog’s face and on me if you give it a whirl (and a bit of Madeira to wash it down).
