Apropos of your now not so recent post on Mexico this is my cactus salad (ensaladas nopales) looking out to the bell towers of the Metropolitan Cathedral in downtown Mexico City.
I highly recommend visiting. Downtown and much of the south and west of the city is very safe and walkable and you can’t swing a dead coyote without hitting a historical landmark. It has a magical Counter-Reformation feel, good coffee, cheap food. If you can, get your hands on some mescal, a spirit similar to tequila but with strong woodsmoke flavor.

Here’s a picture from the Crab Bag in Ocean City, Md., where I ate these delicious crabs and corn during a bachelorette party weekend.
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! I can smell the Old Bay on the backs of those beauties.

Young lady! Blessed child! You have no idea how good your Daddy is to you!

Boccadassee is a neighborhood in Genoa, Italy. It’s relaxed beach vibe is the perfect foil for the (also great) city of Genoa.
I’m not sure what the rules for the pictures are, but we completely finished our meal before taking the photo (except our water, which you can still see bubbling on the table).
I found out tonight that my niece Hannah and her traveling companion Catherine are headed to Cinque Terre on their trip. Lucky girls.
Summertime seems to be the best for VFYTs, because everybody is traveling. Sometimes, though, there’s no place like home:
