We’re making our way slowly across the Continent by land to the Sochi Olympics. Started from our home on Kauai, Hawaii on Jan 12. Have been in Ireland, Paris, Munich, Ludwigsburg, Prague, Vienna and Budapest.

Last night we had our best meal (so far) in the four weeks we’ve been in Europe. It’s from an exquisite little Jewish-Hungarian restaurant on the Pest side called Fülemüle, recommended by a friend in Hanalei who lived here 15 years ago.

We had cholent with goose leg, which is a skillet-served Jewish traditional dish on a base of lentils and beans, and spiced beef Hungarian goulash with noodles. The wine was their February feature from a Hungarian maker; superb.

Next up: the overnight train from Budapest to Bucharest.

Cholent on top, goulash under it. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. The reader’s journey chronicled here.
