Finally home after the Texas trip. On the way back to Louisiana, we stopped in Sealy, Texas, just west of Houston, so I could have some smoked brisket at Hinze’s BBQ. We’d stopped at the Whataburger next door on the way to Austin so the kids could tee-tee, and the aroma of smoked meat wafting from Hinze’s ensured that we would stop on the way back. Julie and I sat in the car and ate that brisket right there in the parking lot. It was insane, this stuff. You do NOT have my permission to drive on I-10 through Sealy and fail to stop at Hinze’s. We ate a whole pound of it, the two of us, wiped our hands with paper towels, and motored on toward home, feeling very Jane and Michael Stern.

Texas, you rock!
