A vision of heaven! I’m sitting here in my south Louisiana living room with the back door wide open, in shorts and a t-shirt, and I just smacked a mosquito. It’s 80 degrees outside today, and humid. Normally I write back to the reader who sends in a VFYT and ask them for a specific town, not just a state or region, before I post, but this photo is so mesmerizing and comforting (to winter-starved me, at least) that I couldn’t wait.

Nice spread! What’s that bottle?

As a native upstate New Yorker, I must ask! Which town is it and what is on the table?
Dinner by the crackling fire. It’s a real creature comfort to those of us who grew up in places where winter comes before winter comes and ends after it ends.

Ah, Rod. It will be too late by the time you read this, but I’m finding solace in watching Sunday Night Football. Lambeau Field. Green Bay Wisconsin. Snowing…

That sounds truly horrible! As a native Michigander stuck in DC, I’m sick of all this weak-sauce weather in the 50s. I can’t imagine if it were 80 degrees out right now – as far as I’m concerned, it should *never* be higher than 80, much less in December!

It’s midnight in St. Paul. Snow is falling lightly, but there probably won’t be much more accumulation. We’ve shoveled twice today. When I took the trash out, I measured 12 inches in an undisturbed area.
Snow plows will work through the night and clear half our streets (and fill in our driveway). Sometime around 6, we’ll wake up and check to see if the schools are open.
My guess is that they will be.

What’s that bottle?
I think it’s Santa Rita Sauvignon Blanc. . I just bought a case of Santa Rita Carmenere and Syrah myself — it’s a delicious mid-range Chilean brand.

Nice photo. And an aside from a guitar geek: That classical guitar to the left will be left seriously dried out being placed so close to that roaring fire.
Put that instrument in a case!

Santa Rita, which I haven’t had in some years but used to enjoy, takes the name 120 from an incident in Chile’s struggle for independence from Spain. One hundred and twenty patriots hid in the cellars from Spanish authorities. Maybe it’s apochrypal, but I think that’s the story on the label.
Might have to try that brand again if it’s as good for the price as I remember.

Winter-starved? Wanna catch the next flight and do my shoveling? We got 9 inches of the white stuff, and it’s supposed to keep on going until some time tomorrow.
