I shall schlep to Veniero’s one day soon for some old-school cannolis (East 11th Street, NYC) . . .

Leave the gun, take the cannoli…

I maintain that Termini Bros. in South Philadelphia is ground zero for cannoli.

That’s Modern Pastry in the North End. Truly outstanding. Don’t believe me? A friend of mine, a very discerning native of southern Italy who has been beating up the quality of the mozzarella (among many other things) in this country, ate her cannolo with a big smile on her face. It’s the real Sicilian deal, the delicate shell filled when you order it and not hours before, the ricotta filling not too sweet to satisfy American tastes. If you want the more Americanized version, Mike’s Pastry will do.

Mmmm, cannoli. I lived in Boston for 5 years, and stopping in the North End for cannoli and hot, pungent espresso was always a must-do as I and my visitors from out of town hiked The Freedom Trail.
