Two Hobbit Day entries from yesterday’s celebration:

Medford, Massachusetts

Says the reader:

Of course I would love to be doing this at the Turf Tavern or Eagle and Child in Oxford, or at the Eagle in Cambridge, but home will do just nicely—as any hobbit would say!

Indeed. Of those three glorious English pubs, I’d say the Turf Tavern is my favorite. Certainly the most hobbity.

Howes Cave, New York

Says the reader:

Toad in the Hole, garlic smashed red potatoes, sauteed mushrooms (Julia Child’s recipe), peas. It’s pouring down rain here, in Howes Cave, on the southern border of the old Iroquois Confederacy. But we are warm, well fed, enjoying some after dinner wine, and toasting Many Years to the Mister Bagginses, both Bilbo and Frodo.
