I took that yesterday at a Raising Cane’s in Baton Rouge, where we stopped on our way to the LSU campus for tailgating. The Tigers won their season opener 41-14 — and my son Lucas, in the background here, made his first trip to Tiger Stadium. It was a successful one. (“Fear The Hat” is a reference to the cap worn by LSU head coach Les Miles).

Rod, way to feed the kids the wife and yourself. Might want to reread Dominion by Scully. What did you have at the stadium?

Fun fact: St Maximus the Confessor, located just off the campus of the University of North Texas, was the first Orthodox church I had even been to. Lovely place.
P.s. Roll tide.

I eat a diet healthier than most Americans, but the sight of hot, crispy french fries and chicken or fish battered and deep fried always makes me salivate.

Wait a tick, that’s not right. Fear the Hat would be a reference to Miles’ nickname, the Mad Hatter. Said nickname has nothing to do with him wearing a hat but because, like storybook character, he’s considered certifiably crazy in both his demeanor with the media and approach to coaching.

Wait, you stopped for fried foods BEFORE tailgating?
Way to show those kids of yours how it’s done!
