This little Signet paperback from 1975, which I bought at the T.G.& Y. store when I was in third grade, is the most frightening book I own. I read it obsessively on the school bus, and ruined myself for ever going into the woods. Just holding it in my hand to take this snapshot caused chills to run up and down my spine. I’m not even kidding.
