How are the Senate Democrats responding to the Hobby Lobby decision? Well:

Congressional Democrats unveiled legislation Wednesday that would override the Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case by requiring most employers to provide federally-required contraception and other health services even if they have religious objections.

The legislation, being introduced by Democrats in both the Senate and the House, would require all employers to abide by the contraception mandate included in the Affordable Care Act — even if they claim to have religious objections.

What say you, Democratic US Sen. Mary Landrieu, up for re-election? Landrieu was not one of the Senate Dems to sign on to the bill. As far as I can tell, she has stayed mum about Hobby Lobby. She’s not going to be able to get away with that, not with her colleagues going after religious liberty hammer and tongs.

The liberal reaction to Hobby Lobby has been a sobering moment for a conservative like me who is alienated from the Republican Party, mostly on matters of economics and foreign policy. The unvarnished truth is that religious liberty is a lot safer with Republicans in charge. I hate that — seriously, I genuinely hate that — but the Democrats have made themselves the party of sexual autonomy über alles. If you’re the sort of American for whom no liberties are more important than those guaranteed by the First Amendment, the great liberal Hobby Lobby freakout may be decisive.

The fact that Sen. Landrieu has hesitated to declare herself on Hobby Lobby and religious freedom speaks volumes. Then again, she doesn’t have to say a word. As long as Democrats control the Senate, Patty Murray and Harry Reid indicate what’s going to happen to religious liberty under Obamacare, absent a Republican House majority to stop them. The Democrats have chosen sides, and have put themselves on the other side of religious freedom. Useful to get that learned.
