Louisville Hotel Attack!

Mrs. Dreher phoned me an hour or so ago from her conference hotel in Louisville.

“Hear that?” she said. There were sirens in the background. “Just like Dallas, huh?”

“Is everything okay?”

“Bad thunderstorm,” she said. “They’ve evacuated the hotel. The roof blew off.”

Damned if she wasn’t right.  Poor Crowne Plaza in Louisville! And poor Circe Institute Christian classical homeschooling conference.  Wendell Berry is supposed to speak at the banquet there on Friday night. I wonder if they’ll have the banquet now. Turns out they’re having to relocate many of the hotel guests — including Mrs. Dreher, who is now lodging in a fancy suite at a downtown Louisville luxury hotel, courtesy of the Crowne Plaza.

Thank God everyone is safe. I said to Mrs. Dreher, “You sound amazingly calm. Even upbeat.”

“It’s amazing how easy adversity can be when you don’t have three kids with you,” she said. “I might even try the spa at this hotel.”

Hmph. Well, I hope she enjoys it. I’m going to feed the kids nothing but Cheerios and Fanta, and not bathe them. That’ll teach her never to leave home for adventure in Louisville.

UPDATE: Turns out that hotel suffered the worst damage in the whole city.
