From the mailbag overnight:
I’d be grateful to learn where you can direct a grad student in English studies (whatever that means, anymore) who cares for the orthodox Christian tradition, the traditions of the West, and the (previously) great book tradition. Having entered my second semester of graduate study in English, I’m quickly finding out that there is little to no respect for the things I love about literature. I’m also mired in the obfuscating language of Derrida, Lacan, Zizek and the like. Are these the sort of minds I am stuck with in an English department? Or, is there a place to go for those few who love Thomas Hardy and could hardly begin to care for Harold Bloom? Are there critics out there who don’t turn language into a deconstructed mess?
Me, I don’t know. Let me ask the room. Readers?
