Did you see that video? I mean, did you see that video?! It shows an older woman, Karen Huff Klein, being mercilessly teased by seventh-grade boys on the school bus (she is a bus monitor). I couldn’t take more than three minutes of it. According to the blog site Towleroad, here is a selection of things these foul-mouthed little monsters said to this woman:

Among the taunts: “Dumb-ass, fat-ass.” “Maybe she is an elephant.” “She’s gonna pick out which kid she’s gonna rape next.” “Karen wants herpes.” “F**king hearing aid.” “I’ll egg your house.” “What’s your address so I can p*ss all over your door.” “I’ll f**king take a cr*p in your mouth.” “You touched her arm flap. It’s all stinky and smelly.” “She probably eats deodorant because she can’t afford real food.” “What size bra are you? Triple sag?”

I hope this school makes a first-class example of these SOBs. If their fathers have any sense of morality, they will too. The good news is that kind sympathizers online have raised $400,000 to send this woman on a vacation.

Don’t forget, homeschooling parents: your children are missing out on SOCIALIZATION!

UPDATE: I didn’t intend for this to become a discussion on homeschooling, but it kind of has, and James Q. writes below in the comments thread:

What I know as a teacher, and what I think many people fail to recognize, is that this is socialized behavior and it is not uncommon. Don’t get me wrong- the video presents an extreme example, but in the predominantly poor, inner-city school where I used to work, I heard many statements of this nature uttered by seventh graders.

When you say that one good of public education is socialization, you should be prepared to look at all sides of that, even the negative. There is something very wrong with our school culture. It is sick, and the whole approach of education propagates that sickness. You can stick your fingers in your ears, say it’s normal, it’s always been that way, or my favorite, blame the teachers, as some here have.

Kids have a catered-to mindset because the current model constantly emphasizes their rights and puts nothing substantial behind responsibilty and accountability. I have met no homeschooled, or alternative ed. kids (not talking about a mere private school designation) that even come close to behaving this way. My experience is more like the antithesis.
