After botching his football career by failing drug tests multiple times, Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu went through rehab, and was back at LSU trying to work his way back onto the team. Looks like that won’t be happening:
Four former LSU football players, including former Heisman trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu, were arrested Thursday and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on several drug-related counts after 10 bags containing 18 grams of “high-grade marijuana” were found inside Mathieu’s apartment, Baton Rouge police spokesman Lt. Don Kelly said.
Mathieu, 20, 262 W. State St., and Jordan Jefferson, 22, 11959 Nicholson Drive, were booked on one count each of simple possession of marijuana, according to prison officials. Karnell Hatcher, 22, Delray Beach, Fla., was booked on one count of second-offense simple possession of marijuana and Derrick Bryant, 22, 11959 Nicholson, was booked on one count each of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
What a complete freaking idiot. Idiot! Here’s a guy who is one of the most talented football players of his generation, who destroyed his future because he would not stop smoking pot. Yeah, yeah, you can say the rule against smoking pot is unjust, but the fact remains, it is the rule, and any football player with a lick of sense will abide by it. How hard is it to lay off pot so you can win a Heisman Trophy and go on to make tens of millions of dollars playing pro football? It’s so frustrating to see a young man as inordinately blessed by talent and opportunity as Tyrann Mathieu throw it all away for the momentary pleasures of smoking marijuana. One day when he’s middle aged and fat and pushing a broom, he will be tormented by what he had, and lost, because of his own lack of self-discipline.
