Did you hear that Herman Cain hasn’t been hurt one bit among Republican voters by his troubles this week? The scandal here is not that Republicans don’t care about sexual harassment allegations — which are still somewhat murky at this point — but that a guy as lightweight as Cain is running neck and neck with Romney. And that he can play the race card with absolutely no grounds for it, and get away with it, not among liberals, but among conservatives. Conservative blogger Dan Riehl’s head explodes:

The Conservative Movement I believe in has always been driven by competence, hope, idealism, patriotism and American exceptional-ism, among a host of other positives. What I see going on with this current Cain mutiny is about nothing more than anger, desperation, resentment and victimization.

Frankly put, it disgusts me.

It’s been clear that Conservatism has lacked for strong political leadership for some years. Fortunately, there are several bright young stars coming up that offer hope for Conservatism’s future. I’m by no means writing it off completely as a movement. But that so many conservatives, driven by nothing more than negative emotions, would allow themselves to be drawn in by a jive talking huckster with silly cobbled together at the last minute plans designed more for pizza box sloganeering, than governing a great nation, is embarrassing.

You said it, Mister.
