Well, shoot, there goes Wednesday. State of emergency here, because of Hurricane Isaac. Gotta get gas and oil for generator, ice, and stuff.
UPDATE: I hadn’t realized that the Isaac landfall is expected to occur on the seventh anniversary of Katrina.
UPDATE.2: Oh crap, the thing is coming right for us. As part of my SWPL hurricane prep, I must grind enough coffee beans to see us through several days without electricity.

So in other words, all the evacuees will be sent to Houston. But Houston won’t be so welcoming this time.

pjsmoov says: Now that you posted the latest tracking map, it doesn’t look so bad. Whatever happens, I’m riding it out in Thibodaux. A generator, lots of food and water, beer, TV, radio, internet, board games, cards, first aid kits… what else do I need. Our house handled Katrina and Gustav and the only thing that bothers me are the potential tornadoes. Category 2 and below hurricane winds and rain I can handle. But I have to board up three houses belonging to elderly relatives–looks like I’ll have a busy Monday. I’ll post updates during the storm if you’re interested.

Noah172 says: Party conventions used to be June or July, then they started creeping into early August. This late August — and now post-Labor Day — has got to stop. One, because the dog days of summer are a good slot to fill with brainless, partisan infomercials (or are they pageants?). Two, because these hurricane interruptions are going to keep happening, year after year. The Republicans cancelled the first day of their Minnesota convention because of fear of bad publicity (partying while folks’ homes are wiped out).
My understanding is that the conventions have been pushed back so late because of public-financing advantages (spending your taxpayer-provided general election dollars in two months rather than three or four). Except this year, neither Obama nor Romney is taking public money (a likely recurring phenomenon in elections to come).

Sounds good! 
I think French press coffee pots and/or Melita filters make the best coffee anyway. You may find it impossible to go back to a regular coffeepot–if you were using one in the first place.
