In his brilliant, succinct way, Daniel Larison obliterates the case for Condoleezza Rice as Romney’s running mate:
Rice did a lousy job as National Security Adviser and Secretary of State, and she has the unusual distinction of being distrusted and disliked by many neoconservatives, most realists, and all non-interventionists in almost equal measure. She is closely associated with an administration that was widely regarded as incompetent in the conduct of foreign policy, and she helped to craft one of the least successful foreign policy records of any postwar administration. Those are her qualifications in the area in which she is considered an expert. On everything else, her policy views are either out of step with the majority of her party or unknown, and she has never run for office at any level. Romney certainly needs someone to make up for his lack of foreign policy experience and knowledge, but Rice would be one of the worst conceivable people to have in that role.
In related news, Dick Cheney has now endorsed Romney, saying that Romney is the “only” presidential candidate one can trust to make the right decision in a foreign policy crisis. Says the vice president who helped lead the US into one of the worst foreign policy debacles of its history. I can’t imagine why these people think that selling Romney as “Dubya II: Electric Boogaloo” is the kind of prospect that puts butts in the seats.

“I can’t imagine why these people think that selling Romney as “Dubya II: Electric Boogaloo” is the kind of prospect that puts butts in the seats.”
Perhaps this is aimed at the type of person who voted for Santorum or Gingrich in the primary, not the 70% of the country who thinks the Bush Presidency was disastrous, most of whom aren’t considering voting GOP anyway. The type of person I’m talking about is a white evangelical, probably southern, who is looking at an East Coast rich boy nominee and thinking of staying home.
