This is a good place to commend to you my TAC colleague Lewis McCrary’s feature on Robert Merry, the foreign policy realist who just took over editorship of the National Interest. Merry’s great 2005 book Sands of Empire was critical in helping me understand why things had gone so wrong for the US in Iraq, and how they were always doomed to go wrong — and why my own views on foreign policy had been badly mistaken. Highly recommended.
