Reading the tea leaves

I want to find  reason  to be hopeful  about the Tea Party–  and hope  that somewhere in its analysis of the factors bankrupting the United States is the high cost of pursuing a  neoconservative foreign policy, adhered to by Obama as much as Bush.  These  hopes received a hard knock  by reading here that a lion’s share of GOP congresspeople with Tea Party ties signed on to an idiotic  resolution endorsing  an Israeli military strike on Iran.  The resolution is dumb in the first place, because Israel would only attack Iran if it had assurances that the US would step in to clean up the mess, and basically continue the war Israel started.  But since that war would probably immiserate the United States with oil price spikes, plus ramp up the casualties in Iran and Afghanistan, it’s a bad deal.  (Of course if you think maintaining Israel’s nuclear monopoly in the Mideast is an absolutely vital  US interest, no matter the cost,  you probably  think differently.)  Anyway, sorry to see the Tea Party folks be so easily led, though I’m not that surprised.  Not only is Ron  Paul not part of this nonsense, I doubt his son Rand would be either.  But until the movement matures, it’s impossible to say whether it will be  a neocon cheering section with middle American roots or something more promising.

  1. Unfortunately the Tea Party has been mostly co-opted by the Republican Neo-Cons as an anti-establishment front and its working very well. Ron Paul types are increasingly unwelcome. Tea Party meetings in New Jersey are run by establishment Republicans and promise people that if they come there won’t be any “extremists” there.

That’s why I don’t go being one of those Ron Paul type “extremeists”. I think they only want power back and promise the ridiculous formula of more and better wars and lower taxes, oh and smaller government. The Tea party has become a bad joke and a tool of the Neo-Con establishment.

  2. I agree with Don Yarish whole heartily!! With Sarah Palin as their poster girl they showed their colors and she showed hers when she ran with a Neo-Con and then endorsed him again. She talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk. I’m afraid the NWO will be here or unstoppable before the next presidential election anyway. The economic collapse is well underway with no end in sight with the current policies which will help them usher in a world currency. Our deficit spending is unsustainable!!

  3. It’s beginning to look like the Tea Party, whatever it was, is becoming kind of a Republican “Hopey Changey Thing” supposedly different from the Obama policies. Any individual espousing real change is immediately branded an extremist and relegated to the lunatic fringe.

Sort of makes you feel like the same people are behind the leadership of both parties and just substitute team A for team B to make us feel like there is real choice. The choices seem more a matter of style than substance.

  4. Hey, wake up. The infiltration of the Tea Party started the day after Ron Paul kicked it off. These are smart people who understand how to negate any positive moves for our country. If everyone who voted new exactly what Ron Paul is looking for and the honest way he would go about it we would have a landslide for him in the next election. Confusion and the lunatic fringe is what the Neo-cons want people to think about the Revolution.

  5. Have a Cup of Coffee, the Tea Party has joined the Israel Zionists:

The Tea Party has endorsed Israel pre-emptive attack on Iran. Before we start, let us have a cup of coffee, we need to be fully awake and think this through…Israel threatened by Iranian nuclear fuel cycle.

It is true that Iran is a nuclear state, but not a nuclear bomb state . Israel is nuclear bomb State. Then why would Israel feel threatened by Iran? Israel has 200 nuclear bombs. Iran has zero.
However, many nations including Germany, Japan, Brazil, and Iran are among the many nuclear states…NOT a Nuclear Bomb State. All these nuclear states have active nuclear fuel cycle, i.e. they are able to produce fuel for nuclear power reactor for generation of electricity.
The following states are nuclear bomb states: USA, Russia, England, France, China, Pakistan and India. The North Korea tested a very crude bomb a year ago, but she is incapable to deliver it as nuclear bomb either by plane or rocket.

Facts: Israel has 3 nuclear submarines, donated by Germany, capable to carry nuclear bombs. USA has provided Israel planes capable to carry nuclear bombs. Israel has nuclear bombs and the most sophisticated armaments in the world, thanks to the generosity of US and Germany.
What is wrong with the Tea Party to endorse Israel? Black is white & good is bad. Israel an aggressive state who has attacked her neighbors and occupied their territories is good!
Why does Israel feel threatened by Iran? US Secretary of State Clinton boldly had announced that USA will nuclear bomb Iran into oblivion if she attacks Israel? USA already has been treating Israel as an honorary member of the Common Wealth of the United States.
A common explanation often offered has been psychological syndrome. A cure for this behavior cannot be another war instigated on behalf of Israel; Israel had attacked more than once the states of Lebanon, Egypt and Syria. We have fought war on Israel behalf in Iraq, and now Israel instigating another war, this time with Iran.
I am confused even after a cup of coffee. How about you?
