Comic Relief From the NAACP

After a week of exceptional racial tension for the chattering classes comes some much needed levity, courtesy of the Los Angeles NAACP:

It’s a heartening comment on the decline of prejudice in America if auditory hallucinations induced by electronic greeting cards are the worst kind of racism the LA NAACP has to worry about. Though on the flipside, after hearing so much about right-wing anti-government paranoia from the media and Obama administration over the past year, one wonders when someone is going to report on the paranoia of a left-leaning group that evidently believes a company as saccharine as Hallmark is deliberately placing racist messages in graduation cards. But I suspect the NAACP is just pulling a very deadpan joke.

  1. The LA NAACP is obviously hallucinating racial bias into this card, but it is absolutely not the worst kind of racism they have to worry about. It is just the only type of racism (even if imagined) that will get them on the evening news. Their Customer Service Learning Center sure won’t make the news.

  2. I have decided, after some deliberation, to trade in my black car for a grey one, as I have been informed by the local chapter of the NAACP that owning a black car is racist, particularly if the car owner has no recent African heritage.

  3. For anyone too bored to listen to the whole video, they point out that this card has been out for 3 years, and they’ve been unaware of any previous complaints. But upon receiving ONE request from the local NAACP, they pulled the card countrywide.

But try to get them (NAACP) to denounce Aisha Sekhmet, who inspired Ieshuh Griffin, who is running for state office in Wisconsin.

(Don’t google any of this with kids in the room.)
