		<description>I think you are on to something here.  The spirit in which Spencer raises cautionary flags is also well taken.  In a nation where the system has broken down a populist reaction is inevitable and healthy.  The majority of the populace wants immigration stopped now.  But the system relies on immigration (both legal and illegal) to fatten itself. This is an example of a populist cause.  Of course there are others.

The danger of populism resides in it&#039;s tendency toward emotionalism and the attendant  danger of manipulation and demagoguery.  The great good fortune of our republic was its founded in a populist movement but lead by men of character and substance.  It will be quite a trick to carry this off a second time in the society we live in now.</description>
