Department of Short Memories . . .

Michael Medved has a plan to reduce the size of government:

Ultimately, there’s only one way to stop—or even to slow—the growth of government and rise in spending: electing more Republicans. The GOP is far from perfect, but those who attack Republicans as identical to Democrats only undermine the nation’s only hope to balance Obama’s policies with conservative principles.

Sure, the last time Republicans controlled the government we got the Department of Homeland Security, No Child left Behind, a trillion dollar war, and an expansion of socialized medicine; but I’m sure things will be different the next time.

  1. Mr. Medved’s right and there’s a clear difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. The Democrats think the constitution says what it doesn’t and the Republicans think the constitution doesn’t say what it does. We’re lucky to have such a wide choice.

  2. Just a quick note, for the fact-challenged, as well as the math challenged:

    Total war budget, by fiscal year:
    2001/2= $20.8 billion
    2003= $67.7 Billion
    2004= $90.4 Billion
    2005= $105.5 Billion
    2006= $120.7 Billion
    Total war expenditure under Republican-controlled Congress is $405.1 billion

    2007, Democratic Congress in power, controlling war budget:
    2007= $170.5 Billion
    2008= $183 Billion
    2009= $156.5 Billion
    Total war expenditure under Democratic-controlled Congress is $510 billion

    Total war expenditure under for Iraq and Afghanistan, to date, is $915.1 billion (the majority of that spent by the Democrats).

    Got to be vigilant, in case some dishonest person tosses out the number “One Trillion” and assumes the nitwits will assign that figure to the “Bush League”.

    For comparison’s sake, the non-partizan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Democratic takeover of the Nation’s energy production and distribution, the Democratic takeover of the Nation’s manufacturing and banking, and the Democratic takeover of the Nation’s healthcare industry, will cost many dozens of times the expenditure upon all US wars, combined, since our country’s inception.

    Just, you know, for those who have trouble keeping the zeros straight.

    The GOP is far from perfect, but those who attack Republicans as identical to Democrats only undermine the nation’s only hope to balance Obama’s policies with conservative principles.

    Hey, I resemble that remark!

    Why, I never -

    - said that Coke was identical to Pepsi.

    - any more than Tolstoy, asked if there was no difference between revolutionary violence and reactionary violence, claimed identity between them when he replied, “There is as much difference between cat-shit and dog-shit. But I don’t like the smell of either one or the other.”

  4. Who asked for the war appropriations in 07/08–oops, GWB. As for 2009, Obama inherited Bush’s war including the agreement governing deployment in Iraq. So over $800Bn belongs to the GOP and the last $90Bn is strings from the GOP.

    And who started both wars?

    As for the CBO scoring, most of that expenditure is from the TARP and related bailouts–pushed and signed by Bush and his minions (when you include the Fed bailout) and supported by the GOP Congressional leadership.

    Your points just prove the Dems supported all this mess as well. Of course. But that just proves Clark’s point.

  5. Hey Barney Rebble. The FY 2007 budget was passed by the 109th congress, meaning a GOP majority house.

    Nice, if pointless, rant nonetheless.

  6. Yes the Democrats spend. That’s what they do. They are honest about this. You know exactly what you are getting from them. They make no apologies.

    The Republicans, on the other hand, lie. They lie to everybody, including themselves. They tell you what you want to hear to win an election and have every intention of breaking their word as soon as they get into office. They feel it’s smart politics, their lying strategy.

    Until people stop believing them…
