This clearly illustrates that the that contracting out U.S. government responsibility, under the guise that it is cheaper, cost us more in respect through out the world and in my opinion really does not save us tax dollars. I feel strongly that the U.S. government has certain jobs that can be and are performed better by the government

“No mission” being the Ir-af-pak mission, by now clearly the tail supremacy of military industrial interests wags the dog. What’s so surprising about the behavior of mercenaries on the ground when they know who rules?

For the record: Triple Canopy has absolutely nothing to do with the installation of electricity. Triple Canopy only occupies housing units built and maintained by other contracting companies who hire hundreds of local nationals...that is right, they give Iraqis jobs.

For those of you who call security contractors crooks, or despicable humans; you are only seeing the 1%. I have seen many Iraqi lives affected positively by food drives, medical and veterinary clinics, the construction of schools and food facilities, and many other projects that are protected by these same security contractors. Don't take what you hear in the media and apply it across the board.

I could not agree with you more. Privatizing our military and ancillary services has been a disaster. I have no problem having my tax dollars go to R&R for our US Soldiers. But these contractors have no accountability and are a bunch of jerks (bell-shaped curve, of course). Let's return to cooks, transport, and all that stuff being done by US Military. They are taught respect, honor and discipline. They are the front lines of our global diplomatic efforts.

I honestly believe private contractors, mercenaries, profiteers — whatever you call them — are one of the most destructive elements in the indefinite foreign military presence in Afghanistan today. Aside from the criminal behavior, the waste and the fraud and the abuse (all well-documented), as “strategic communications” they are a disaster. They shame us, they breed mistrust and fear among the people we supposedly there to help and most importantly, they broadcast with a bullhorn that the bottom line is more valued than honor, respect, ethics or responsibility (kind of like our society back home!) And we are all at fault for letting it happen.

Bravo. Excellent post.

This is an excellent point, and as an historian of the Roman Republic, this reminds me of nothing so much as the corruption caused by the tax-farmers (publicans) send out into the provinces.

As Rome under the Republic did not have an organized system of taxation for its provinces, the contracts were farmed out to the so-called "equites," or the financial elite of the day. As they were basically without oversight, these equites committed the most foul and usurious practices, all while staying in the good graces of a Senate whose members relied on their infusions of cash for electioneering.

Will ACORN scandal ever end?...

In the latest videos released by Big Government, an ACORN immigration specialist in San Diego offers to help smuggle underage prostitutes across the Mexican border. Will there be anything at all left of ACORN's credibility after all this is over?......
