Matt, non of these people have "...the misconception that the Christian Right is a monolithic bloc of Israel-supporting Rapturists."

Learn to recognize those individuals whose main purpose is to drive wedges between our factions of conservatives.

Hold up a picture of RUSH, and whisper, "If it doesn't smell RIGHT, it ain't RIGHT." If they involuntarily sneer, put one hand on your wallet, and take a step back.

Many of these people would not know who would be most likely to plant a bomb in your child's school, if asked to choose between the Mossad and Hamas. And they consider you too dumb to recognize them, camouflaged as they are by vocabulary and their liberal arts degrees.

Now the question is… how does one reconcile this point of view with the vast number of ‘Christian’ Republicans awaiting the Rapture and unconditionally supporting anything the Israeli Likud faction and its American agents promulgate? What candidate can run for President and be elected with a platform that reconciles what Giraldi has written here with the intense, religion-based prejudices of the Republican base?

I am continually annoyed at the misconception that the Christian Right is a monolithic bloc of Israel-supporting Rapturists.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Theologically, conservative Catholics are neutral on these matters, so are Mormons, and so are most Reformed Christians. That's nearly half of the coalition who have zero interest, and many of the new non-denominational churches have very little interest, either. As soon as somebody knocks the Baptists out of the "family values" driver's seat, the evangelical/Israel coalition will be over. Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later, but even when it does, I doubt it will make any difference.

The "business wings" of both parties are very pro-Israel, and that's what should be getting attention, not the gaudier elements of Rapturist rhetoric. Of course, it's easier to rip a religious group than to look at the role we allow money to play in the political process, so that's why the discussion looks the way it does.

I don't like AIPAC's influence either, but I can't muster sympathy for Freeman or regret about his absence. This was a man who took the Chinese (fascist) side after the Tiannanmen square massacre, and he had cozy ties with both the Saudis and the Communist Chinese.

Just because the neocon right hates him doesn't mean that he necessarily has integrity or validity.

So, let us assume that what is written here is soundly reasoned and in the national interest... I think it is, and I am a Democrat. Let us further posit that it is indeed a 'conservative' position, and one that is opposed to that of some associated with the label 'Democrat.' So far, fine. Now the question is... how does one reconcile this point of view with the vast number of 'Christian' Republicans awaiting the Rapture and unconditionally supporting anything the Israeli Likud faction and its American agents promulgate? What candidate can run for President and be elected with a platform that reconciles what Giraldi has written here with the intense, religion-based prejudices of the Republican base? It says here that it is impossible, and conservatives need to stop identifying with the Republican party, period. It is over. You cannot be in a coalition with those people.

It should be obvious to anyone paying attention. With a few notable exceptions, every member of Congress is either on the AIPAC payroll or scared to death of their influence.

The Israel lobby has a stranglehold on the American government and is leading the politicians around by the nose. It's really quite embarrassing to watch them roll over like a puppy.

The American people are paying the price for this in blood and treasure. When will the insanity end?
