Danger Lurks . . .

I purchased a pair of those hand grip excercisers today, but after reading the warning, I’m afraid to use them. The paper card they were attached to warns:

Consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. Exercise programs of any kind present an inherent danger to the participant. Serious or fatal injury can occur. All equipment is intended to be used by adults and only in the manner shown/illustrated/described. Anyone under the age of 18 should have adult supervision. Always follow instructions (if included). Always use proper techniques and common sense when exercising. Always check your equipment thoroughly. (emphasis added)

  1. I suppose a hand grip exerciser could produce “fatal injury”… if, say, you put one in a sock, twirled it around to build up speed, and then smashed it into someone’s skull. Short of that, though, I’m at a bit of a loss to imagine just how dangerous those things could be.

  2. Clark “Danger” Stooksbury just became, Clark “Caution: Consult Your Doctor” Stooksbury. Alas.

I do wonder at what point the authors of these disclaimers will acknowledge that almost no one has their own doctor anymore. Your doctor. You wish! Here’s an idea: take your hand exerciser to a doctor and consult him, just for a laugh.

  3. Wait until health care is free if you do take them to your doctor,

  4. [...] Stooksbury over at The American Conservative seems to have noticed this warning first last week. Share and [...]
