Ron Paul Praised in The Weekly Standard

Yes, he was. Christopher Caldwell writes,

In the name of justice we ought to recall that there was one candidate who did foresee our predicament with considerable accuracy when it still lay far in the future. Ron Paul, in almost every speech he made during the Republican primaries, spoke of bubbles, reckless credit growth, and the “unsustainability” of present policy. So why isn’t there more demand for the common-sense solutions he put forward?

Indeed. Perhaps TWS might also recognize that Congressman Paul has been right on another disastrous area of recent American policy, namely foreign affairs. Don’t bet on it.

  1. MSM do a questionable job of analyzing the recent pass, but they do an even worse job of predicting the future. How on earth did they get away with telling the world Dr. Paul was unelectable?

  2. Just for fun, go back and watch or read the transcript for the Republican presidential debate in Michigan on the economy…

  3. Well he’s not a lefty so he can’t be a dem and while he’s right in almost everything he says, he’s not ‘Right’ so he’s a novelty act. The sooner you guys realize that your conservative movement is a myth the sooner the republican party can actually start to govern according to the principles that had a big chunk of the population identifying as republican. Lately all they do is play to the ‘conservative’ audience which is nothing but a loose collection of mono-maniacs who call themselves consrvative because the alternative is to call yourself liberal and that word has been, ummm, dragged through the mud a bit and insecure people can’t be seen as siding with the uncool party. Most won’t even think the issue through. I know, I live in a soutwestern heartland cowboy state. In every political conversation I have with coworkers of friends that line by Jonathan Swift make an appearance in my thought stream; ‘You can’t reason someone out of what they were never reasoned into’. Or something like that.

  4. “It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of what he was never reasoned into.” Jonathan Swift

  5. [...] @TAC, some praise and acknowledgment for Dr. Paul in Weekly Standard: Neither Barack Obama nor John [...]

  6. Rawshark, you can’t reason me into liberalism / socialism, and you’ll only look silly trying.

I have no use for the Republican leadership, but I have no respect for the liberal agendas either.

Just because I am against them does not mean I am with you and yours, and just because they are wrong does not mean that you are right.

  7. Rawshark,
You’re talking to the wrong conservatives. Try Fox News.

  8. “So why isn’t there more demand for the common-sense solutions”

Because the solutions would involve some pain, and Americans have no tolerance for pain.

  9. Angela, yes I could and you would look silly and unamerican trying to resist it. The Declaration of Independance is dripping with socialism. Overthrowing a government that served the nobles for one that is of the people (ie socialist) is not something a conservative would do. They would be against that (‘standing athwarth history screaming stop’ ring any bells?) and in fact were against it. So if you’re going to call yourself a conservative I have to call you a Tory. How’s that feel? It sucks to be called unamerican and a traitor and all that, I know I’ve been getting it since 7/03 and trust me you never get over it. Especially when those who did start saying they never said that it was all a liberal media conspiracy, in fact it’s them that have been labeled. (Can you believe Karl Rove had the nerve to say Obama should come clean about anything? Didn’t this guy ignore a Congressional subpoena?)

Jack Tracey, FOX is for authoritarians or neocons not ‘conservatives’ meaning libertarians and liberals who afraid to accept reality or who have been mugged. People need to get past the perception that liberals are effeminate men with pony tails or patchouli oil smelling women who don’t shave their legs.
I’ve never met a so called concervative who had any real idea what a liberal is. It’s all stereotypes. And they refuse to hear what they’re misinformed about. Any headway I make is undone the next day after a full plate of Rush, Hannity, and Savage. I got friends who know I’m a registered republican, who know I supported Bush in 2000 yet who act like I’m a liberal from Berkely once politics come up. It’s amazing to watch them shut down and go into ‘No No No I’m not hearing this liberal bullshit anymore’ even when I’m giving them Goldwater. If they don’t already believe it to be true it’s liberal and they don’t want to hear it.
