		<description>Amongst mathematicians, the higher levels become more and more heavily male.  This is taken by PC&#039;ers as evidence of discrimination against women.  Interestingly, the higher levels also have more and more left-handers, becoming almost half left-handers at the top levels, wildly disproportionate compared to the general population.  This could only be from discrimination in favor of the left-handed!</description>

There are a lot of people who would rather fail than face unpleasant theories, or even unpleasant people. Unfortunately, these people tend to rise to leadership positions.

I expect the Larry Summers nomination, if it happens, to be the exception rather than the rule.</description>
