How Not to Rebuild the Republican Party

Ross Douthat and Reihan Salam have exactly the wrong prescription for what ails the Republicans, I argue in my Reason review of their Grand New Party. Check it out.

  1. Great review as usual Dan. Do these guys not realize that the reason Obama won about half of the white vote is because the Sam’s Club crowd is becoming less and less significant, and, for better or worse, a lightning rod for the other half? And actually, he did slightly better among whites making under $50,000 than over.

Also, as sloppiness goes, “neoconservatism in action”? Do they really have no idea that the old 70s domestic definition of neoconservatism was virtually the diametric opposite of what they propose?

  2. Great review … I can only hope that guys like that aren’t the ones who come out on top in this time of GOP realignment! God help us if they do.
