This World Was Never Meant For One As Beautiful As You

Jeffrey Shapiro in the Wall Street Journal:

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty — a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

Get that: Bush is the one person who has stood by us. I feel so ashamed for having occasionally pointed out the president’s failings.

  1. When we get a perfect president let me know. I’d rather have an imperfect Bush than a perfect Obama any day. Time to stop griping about the lame duck and start preparing for the president-elect.

  2. You know Brecht’s remark during the East Berlin uprising in 1951, when the apparatchiks announced that the people of Berlin had greatly disappointed the party: Well, then maybe the party should dissolve the people and elect a new one.

It’s an amazing thing, to call these people Bolsheviks and intend to mean it figuratively, and wind up meaning it literally.

  3. An excellent post.

  4. Every republican president is a ‘Great Man’. No matter what happened during they time it was not the fault of the Great Man. McCain was a perfect candidate for this reason. A war hero past, years as a maverick, no matter what happened during his time he was going on a pedestal. Take Palin for example, nothing was going to stick to her, she was already fitted for a Joan Of Arc statue.

  5. given how vincent’s kinsman was butchered on an amsterdam street, isn’t that caption in poor taste used re the chief cheerleader of islam vs christianity?

otherwise, it cracked me up before my mind went down that path
