A Buchananite Democrat in South Carolina
Jim Antle has an article up at The American Spectator on Bob Conley, South Carolina’s antiwar, small-government, immigration-restrictionist Democratic Senate nominee. Conley even voted for Ron Paul in the Palmetto State’s Republican presidential primary. (South Carolina has open primaries.) As Jim writes,
The next Zell Miller Conley is not …. He’s no fan of President Bush or the “goose-stepping, rubberstamping Republicans in Congress.” Conley is a strong civil libertarian, opposing the FISA reauthorization and the Patriot Act, and wants to end the war in Iraq. “Occupation,” he corrects me. If, as Pat Buchanan quips, John McCain “is running on a platform that says your jobs are not coming back, the illegals are not going home, but we are going to have more wars,” Conley is the anti-McCain.
I attended a Conley press conference and a fundraiser for him a few weeks back, and I can say that he is indeed the genuine article. TAC will be covering his race with great interest.
